Dr. Dotto Paul Kuhenga, PhD

Dr. Dotto Paul Kuhenga is the Head of Communication and Marketing Unit (HCMU). He holds a PhD focusing on Communication of Climate Change (Climate Change and Sustainable Development-Communication) from the University of Dar es Salaam (and partially from Makerere University, Uganda); MA in Journalism and Media Studies from Rhodes University, South Africa, and MA in Development Studies and BA in Journalism from the University of Dar es Salaam. He is currently the Head of the CMU Unit which is responsible for all matters pertaining to information, communication and marketing at the University, including communication to the public, and between the University management and the university community. He also serves as the University of Dar es Salaam Spokesperson.

Dr. Kuhenga is a Journalism and Media Studies and Development Lecturer and Consultant, as well as a journalist. He is a lecturer at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication of the University of Dar es Salaam. He teaches writing for the media, specialized writing for print media as well as advanced writing for print media, and mass media research. Dr. Kuhenga is a competent and experienced print and broadcast journalist, as well as experienced Lecturer and Consultant in the fields of Journalism, Media Studies, Communications, Public Relations and Development Studies. He is specialized in print media, and media and society, in particular the works of community media in Africa. He has worked as a journalist, with over 15 years of experience, in Tanzania in which he worked for The Citizen and Raia Mwema newspapers and Mlimani Media (Mlimani Radio and TV and The Hill Observer Newspaper) of the University of Dar es Salaam; Kenya, Uganda and Switzerland in which he covered the Periodic Review Session of the United Nations in Geneva, in October, 2011. Dr. Kuhenga has worked as a media consultant and communication expert in several projects and assignments for and under the auspices of the Parliament of Tanzania, UNESCO-Tanzania, National Bureau of Statistics, National Council for Technical Education (NACTE), University of Dar es Salaam’s Research and Education for Democracy in Tanzania (REDET), the Economic and Social Research Foundation (ESRF), Tanzania Media Foundation (TMF), Tanzania Centre for Democracy (TCD), Tanzania Union of Industrial and Commercial Workers (TUICO), UK Thompson Reuters Foundation in Tanzania and the Land O’Lakes International Development. Dr. Kuhenga research and publication interest areas include: practices of print journalism, media and climate change; media and development; and the role of community media (especially community radio) in Africa in general, and in rural Tanzania in particular.
